If Florida hires Hexy...that would be a genius move.
He might be a prck to work for but the guy knows how to turn around a franchise.
Admittedly we were lost before he came from los angeles.
His draft record is off the charts from 2014-2018.
His first draft pick was a 17th overall travis sanheim...ekblad went first that year.
Flyers wouldnāt make that trade 1 for 1 six years later. His 2nd pick was aube-kubel...how good does that little fire plug look right now?
Provorov, TK, Patrick, Frost, Lindblom (5th Round), Farabee, Hart, on and on...
Dmen Phillipe Myers and Egor Zamula (heāll be in the lineup next season) werenāt even drafted!!! Come on...not fair Hexy!
Not fair!!!
Do it Florida!!!
You will become relevant in 4 years if you do!!!
When we win 4 or 5 Cups in the next dozen years or so...Flyer fans will owe much thanks to the Brandon Boy Wonder.
Also born on my birthday...so thereās that. |

I wonder if Hextall would be a good GM for say Calgary? The job opening currently doesn't exist, but maybe later today we get some news. |

Hextall is an ass clown - Hockey Pucker
Yeah good point.
When i look around the league...i definitely count 32 GM geniuses...
Dubas...bergevin...the night janitor at prudential center...kim pegula...gorton whoās paying shattenkirk 6 million of cap space to play on another team next year...jim benning who picks juolevi instead of matt tkachuk...sleepy eyes holland...the guy who works for the hurricanes for ten bucks an hour...doug wilson who pays a billion dollars to 3 defensemen...the temp in minnesota...the genius in calgary or winnipeg...grampa poile whose been a GM for about 40 years with 0...ZERO...Cups...iām sure iām forgetting many other useless turds...
But back to your point...cause it was a really good one...
Yes...hextall is in fact an ass clown. |

I'd say it's a tie between Pens and Leafs being the closest. Both teams have roster issues that CAN be addressed and handled. I think the Oilers just keep digging themselves into holes with bad contracts and have a lot of work to do right their ship. |

Don't forget how Hexy suckered the Kings into taking that Lecavalier contract. Hexy would be a great choice for Quebec. I mean Florida. The Flyers team we see today is mostly because of the great work Hexy did cleaning up Holmgren's mess. Great drafting especially. |

If Fla hires Hexy:
Who would Hexy pick at #1 overall?
Would he trade that pick with a 3rd and the rights to Hoffman for the Sens #3 and#5??? |

I know this doesn't feel like a continuation of last season and it really should be viewed as separate tournament in general...a tournament more closely tied to the 2020-21 season than the 2019-2020 season that ended in March, 5 months ago... - Eklund
How is this in any way tied to the 2020-2021 season? It's based on records from the 2019-2020 regular season and will conclude in 2020.
Please explain. |

Hextall is not a good GM . period.
What Happens if Pens or Edmonton wins the lottery tonight ?? Both have zero cap space and have huge bad contracts. COuld be good for teams like NJ and Ottawa who have lots of cap space . Ottawa , Chicago , Detroit , LA and NJD are the only ones with real cap space and none pick for the #1 pick...
BAD BAD JOB NHL on setting up these rules for the draft.
my take on I hope get the #1 PICK....
1-MINNY -THEY ARE A MESS
2- Nashville -old and slow
3- Toronto - a minus with cap space -would have t sell players.
4-Edmonton - same as Toronto
5- Winnipeg - little cap room
6-Pittsburg -smae have -$4m in cap space . yes that's a minus . 'and aging players.
7- FLorida -no option
8- no option |

His drafting appears suddenly to have been spectacular. Ask fans same time last year, and the verdict would not have been so clear.
But he was apparently extremely opinionated and did not accept other viewpoints, for hockey reason and apparently (according to Bill M) for alumni relations either. He kept on persisting with that woodface Hakstol and their unimaginative, boring play. He was quite reticent in bringing players up from the minors, and signing big name free agents.
It is clear now that the team was closer to success than he thought.

Hextall was the man and I truly thought he would take us to the promised land and without him we wouldn't be here.
I don't know the real issues he had or what moves he made or failed to make that upset higher ups but he would be an amazing GM for a franchise that is up and coming
I bet he brings Pryor on board too. Pryor is the man responsible for drafting our studs and I have a feeling that since Pryor left when hexy left that when hexy gets back on Pryor will too and that is great news for Florida!
Hexy has a beautiful mind.. mmmm....he's so hexy |

Did Hexy not clean up Holmgren's mess? - gergeswillems
Hexy came in, cleaned up a lot of the bad contracts (Lecavlier, Grossmann, Hartnell), turned their prospect pool from a D to an A, and left them with ample cap space.
His issue was that he micromanaged things things that he had little to no business in meddling with (alumni relations, spying on players), largely neglected the present quality of play, was reluctant to call up players from the AHL, and I didn't think Hakstol was a good choice for NHL head coach.
So if it's a case of cleaning out some bad hits and restocking, he's your man. But his boss needs to keep tabs on him and make sure he's not overstepping his bounds. |

Spying on players? Did not know that. Can you elaborate? |

The Pens are the oldest in terms of their key star players, and are most likely of the four teams listed to earn the āblow it upā tag.
Edmonton is in fine shape, they just need another season for the younger guys to mature. However, I sincerely wish they would have settled on a better coach. Superstars aside, coaching will likely prevent them from winning a cup until he is replaced. Goaltending could be addressed too.
Toronto is a goddamn russian nesting doll of offence. Yet they got shut out twice in five games, and were within five minutes of being shut out in game 4 as well. Itās no secret their defence needs to be addressed. Both personnel standing on the blue line, and the system they are deployed under. Winnipeg lost 4/6 starting D-men and managed to muster 80 points using that ragtag bunch of misfits. Thatās only one point less than the leafsā 81 points, and Toronto had all of their D-men (and then some) ācontributingā. I really donāt think itās the personnel on the blue line here. Itās the free-wheeling style of play. A more disciplined approach (see: Columbus) turns them into the top contender of the four.
Winnipeg is the closest, and not because Iām a fan. Because of Hellebuyck! Goaltending is the most important position to build around, and the Jets have the best of the bunch without question. More than likely the Vezina winner this year. The Jets offence showed it couldnāt sustain injuries to 3 forwards (2 stars) at the same time with a porous defence. But the jetsā defence looked the way it did because Chevy/GM doesnāt rush into things. Our painfully slow build (aka draft and develop) had a fanbase pressuring for a winning team years before we got it. But heās got a busy offseason. Sign Demelo, we like Pionk, and choose 2 from the remaining bunch of Jets/moose as middle/bottom pairing... and that still leaves 2 more D to find via trade/free agency (No, Iām not terrible at math, they need 7 starting D men for when one guy isnāt cutting it). He wonāt overpay, so Iād guess he only brings in one quality middle-pairing guy, and takes a chance on another diamond in the rough (ie: Demelo for a late pick). Then likely a rental to patch things up mid season.
Whoās the closest to being a serious contender? Itās not simply current roster construction, itās the ability of a franchise/management to adapt without sacrificing the future in the case it doesnāt work out. As much as Iāve cursed it at times, I think Winnipeg does the best job in this capacity. Theyāve already got the offence and goaltending. Once they address the defence so they can withstand a couple injuries up front without losing hope, they are a legit threat.
Who benefits most from first overall selection? Of the four, itās a toss up between the Penguins who need a young talent like infused into the lineup to push back a rebuild, and the Oilers who could greatly benefit from a cost controlled talent like that to play alongside McDavid or Draisaitl (all 3 on a line... scary!).

You're a Flyers Fan so you have more insight about the Flyers then I do. But looking at it from the outside, that was one hell of a mess Holmgren created. He basically ran that Franchise into the ground.
Yzerman currently has a similar task in Detroit. Cleaning up Ken Holland's huge mess. If he can emulate what Hexy did in Philly, I'll be very happy. |

There is little doubt that Hextall did some great things in Philly with his drafting and cap management.
It has been reported that he had some issue when he was GM. However, he also has had the benefit of watching how the team has developed after he left. There were some moves that complimented his drafting and some of the young players were brought up. There was also some great coaching.
Everything I have seen from Hextall indicates that he is a smart person. I would like to think that he has reflected on things, learnt and evolved.
If I were an NHL team in search of a coach, I would certainly want to interview him and see what he has taken from his experience in Philadelphia. If he has learnt from his experience he could be a great GM for a club. |
