Listen, I think we dodged a bullet.....taking a hard look at his numbers and his precipitous decline; Chiarot 2.0.
There was no way we were making the SCPO this year (I would've liked at, but that was before the season kicked off and we soiled the bed sheets....). Lalonde's not going anywhere. We're going to languish in the dregs of the NHL this season. Maybe hot some draft lotto-luck and pick 4th again...... Sucks. Bad. There were several moves that could've been made to help us IMPROVE (NOT make the SCPO, there's a difference), and show UFAs that the times they )were) a-changin' but that time's past.
Kasper looks great, solid kid. Bull-strong in the corners. Eddy's going to do some amazing things - kid's smooth as Kerry Gold butter (shameful plug, stuff's the BEST butter). GRG looks to have a bunch of kids making a case for a serious look from the new coaching staff next season......... Now, anyone have any glycerin pills, I just re-watched the game last night - the ol' ticker ain't doin' so good.......... |

Ok, no joke, I had a heart issue for an hour after the game. As for Trouba, just interesting to go back and hear the reasons why he wanted to be in New York and compare it to how far he actually moved.

Trouba is a defensively porous 2nd/3rd pairing guy in decline, signed at $8 million per through the end of next year.
Anaheim not only took his whole contract without forcing NYR to retain any of it (!!!!!), but also gave them a draft pick on top—plus a No. 7 defender whose salary is small enough to be fully buried in the AHL.
Detroit had no reason to want this guy and even less reason to come anywhere close to matching the offer the Ducks made. It's honestly shocking that NYR were able to rid themselves of Trouba without paying any price whatsoever.

Heard that Trouba nixed a trade to Columbus. |

Yeah, I found it hard to believe that the Ducks swallowed all that salary and gave a pick too!! What else is perplexing that Trouba apparently waived his no-trade clause to be traded. Why would the Ducks not be on his list?????

I agree with the comments indicating that Red Wings not getting Trouba is actually a good thing. He is a high priced aging vet that will not make that much of a difference. Walman must have said or did something aggregious to have Yzerman pay the Sharks to take him. At least the Lions are giving us something worth watching and cheering for. Thanks Jeremy for your dedication! This year is going to be tough one. Keep up the great work. I dont comment much but your posts are always interesting and appreciated! |

You’re not alone in your opinion, others chiming in. Just interesting that it was reported that Detroit did try to get him and missed last summer |

Well, Trouba IS an upgrade for the Duck's D-core, but what an expense! He is to help defend their youngsters more than to keep the puck outta their net. He may bring a 2nd back at the TDL with the Ducks retaining 1/2 salary, but whoever trades for him may need someone else to retain $2M more for 2 years for a 3rd? That ain't gonna work unless Trouba becomes the guy he was 3 yrs ago! |

Definitely dodged a bullet with Trouba. |

Just watched the Leafs /capitals game. Washington looks good. Hard to believe that last year they looked terrible and only made the playoffs because of their goalie as there overall metrics were so bad. Yet a smart Gm took a team that last year was player wise behind Detroit, and improved them from a team of over the bucket hockey players back into a playoff team. We need to start to admit that our present leadership running the Wings is not doing a good job. Period. |

We need major changes. Maybe the ducks will take Gustafson with us keeping his salary we throw in Lalonde for video coach / water boy /gopher and Draper for $1 dollar for his management expertise |

Apparently Yzerman was in on Trouba again. Trouba seemed surprised that the Wings were interested like he didn't know they were an option in the interview he did after the trade.
My guess is Yzerman likely wanted them to take one of Holl, Gus, Chiarot or Petry and retain salary on Trouba so Drury didn't tell him Detroit was an option. Doesn't matter though, he wouldn't fix this horrible defense anyways.

Not just last summer, they are saying SY was in the mix again now - StargateSG1 NYR wanted to be rid of Trouba's entire cap hit, only the Ducks and the BJs could do that. So Y was not even close.
And the Ducks wanted his entire cap hit to stay above the cap floor when they deal Vatrano, Fowler, Zegras and whomever else. So it looks as though Trouba stays there because other Ducks will bring back a much larger return!
Trouba has been reduced to just being ballast! |

I'd still like to see Zegras come our way......I'd *think* the cost would be acceptable...... |

I would welcome the opportunity to reacquire Bert than trade for Zegras. |
