With time and experience he'll be a good player for the Canucks. He provides a much needed physical element and he can score too, at least he's proven that at lower levels.

Back from the UVM - North Dakota game and my first hand view of Brock Boeser.

Overall, I think that he has a lot of potential but will need some work. He finished the game with a goal and an assist. I made some notes as things stood out to me, so I will try to lay it out as well as I can.

The assist - He got the puck on the left wing side along the boards near the hash marks on an end around pass. He cut in towards the faceoff circle and faked a shot, but instead passed down low to a guy that was coming around towards him from behind the net. Great heads up look. The guy kept his momentum and buried the puck on the far side of the goalie.

The goal - Brock was cherry picking and got hit on a nice pass for a breakaway. Shot a hard wrister just under the cross bar at full speed as soon as he got to the hash marks. No deke or messing around. Just flat out beat the goalie with a cannon

Other things that stood out:

- He did NOT kill penalties
- There were 2 matching penalties in the game where it was 4 on 4. He didn't play in either of them.
- When the game was put away 5-2 with 5 min left, he did not get another shift. I thought maybe he was injured on a play where he went in for a quick shift and skated slowly off, but he came back out at the end of the game to hug the goalie.
- One on of their powerplays, he was forechecking and UVM cleared the puck down the ice. He stopped. As in stood still where he was inside the zone and waited. Once his dman got the puck and started skating it back, he scrambled back to the blue line. I honestly think that he didn't realize that they were on a powerplay and thought that was icing..
- I saw him throw one weak check along the boards, but was mostly against contact if he could avoid it.
- There was a scramble in front of the net after a whistle where there were guys getting into some heavy pushing. Most of the players all skated to the scrum in case something happened.. he just stood there and adjusted his elbow pads. I was hoping he would come off as the type to stick up for teammates.
- He had one stretch behind the UVM net where he controlled play going back and forth for several seconds. He took a lot of hits and was tied up, but maintained control of the puck. Often using his feet to kick the puck back up to his stick Sedin style.

Positives:
- The shot is as good as advertised. Not just on the goal, but on each shot he took.
- Skating was great. He was one of the better skating people on the ice
- Size was better than I expected. He isnt huge by any standard, but didn't look small or out of place as an 18 year old freshman surrounded by people up to 3 years older.
- He played both wings at points in the game. He lined up as a left wing (as a right shot) on most faceoffs, but he would alternate back and forth to each side to wait for the stretch pass... which leads me directly to the

Negatives:
- Cherry picker. Almost every time he was on the ice, he was looking for the breakaway. It worked once, but it got to the point where I wonder if he was having an affair with the linesman.
- No backcheck. It is one thing to look for the big pass if you are willing to haul ass back to help out. He did not. Took his time getting back.
- He might not be diverse enough. Or at least he seemed too dead set on doing the same play. Almost every time he got the puck when he was in the offensive zone, he tried the same play where he skates across the middle laterally looking for the perfect shot. More often than not it was knocked away before he could shoot.
- His defense was weak. One hand on the stick poke check seemed to be his favorite defensive play.

My overall assessment of him was positive, but he is going to need to change his game to be worth anything at the NHL level.

DJ- good write-up. If I could stress one thing with this kid though; he's 18 years old so he's like 99.9% of every other 18 year olds....he needs to learn a more complete 200 foot game. He was playing high school hockey last year.

I love how the announcers pointed out how stupid that Line-change was by Weber while it was happening.

Brutal finish to the game, Sedins are way too slow for 3-3. The only positive was when Larkin was heading in at full stride and Hutton caught up to him. Very impressive speed!
