Yes he is. That only applies if he was drafted out of one of the CHL leagues. Euro players can step right into the AHL the same season they are drafted.

Can't believe they gave a three year deal to an unproven rookie |

Me reading into this is that Lou's son will take over the GM role down the road and Lou doesn't want to handcuff him with some high risk moves so he is playing it slow and safe. He is probably trying to change the mentality and culture first (e.g. bringing a competent coaching staff) to set the foundation. |

Don't worry. I got the joke. I was just making a general statement about Lou not making any big moves. |

I’m thinking that if there is a deal to be made that makes the team better Lou will do it no matter who is taking the GM role next. |

Yes, like pursuing AP. That was a deal he was willing to make but the Marner OS is just plain nonsense.

Does that mean you trade CC or play Nelson on the wing? Or have Barzal, RNH, Nelson and CC down the middle? |

Why not have Barzal, Nuge, and Nelson at center? That's a real strong string of guys running down the middle. You could argue in favor of pushing Brock to LW to round out the top 6 but I'd still like to see them add Gusev or someone else. |

I feel Nelson at $6m playing 3C is expensive but if they manage the cap situation, why not. CC playing 4C at $3.5m also not ideal but he kills penalties and plays in critical defensive situations so that works.
Barzal - $8-$9M (if he signs a long term deal)
Nelson - $6M
RHN - $6M
CC - $3.5M

Yeah but Nuge only has two years left on his deal and then, I think we all know by now, it's a pretty big coin flip to see if he stays after that. If you're going to spend the money somewhere, spending it at center is a real good place to start.
I'm not so sure that re-signing Casey is something that's gonna happen after next year either. He could see dollar signs and bolt for the UFA market and/or the team may not see re-signing a 30yo checking line center/PK'er that plays a wearing physical game as a good allocation of cap space. Not saying it will/won't/should/shouldn't happen, but it's something to take into account. |
