Seabrook, great hockey player and leader but it’s a wait and see how he bounces back from this years surgeries.
But if you were to deal for Seabrook maybe take a couple centers from Chicago like Wise and Kurashev?

It would have to be a good return for sure. There’s no guarantee Seabrook won’t get hurt again. He could well spend a couple years on IR still. The asset is going to be the other pieces coming back

With toews being “the guy” and Dach looking like “the next guy”. I would think Dylan Strome would probably be the starting point. It would be interesting but I’m not sure Seabrook would be willing to waive his NMC, especially if he can play.

Really good insight. Thanks for that! Strome is an interesting get

Seabrook would waive it if Bowman told him he was going to spend the rest of his career in the AHL if he doesn't!

I would think Strome would be the price if Stevie tool on Seabrook. send Franz the other way with half his salary retained.
Wow, that is still too much salary!!! Chi better retain $1M on Seabrook!

I’m not sure people realize how far Seabrook has fallen. It’s not simply a “his best days are behind him” scenario. He is an extreme liability on both ends of the ice.

You know how much we all “loved” Jonathan Ericsson making $4.25 million per year? Seabrook at this stage in his career is arguably no better than Ericsson (and possibly worse), counts almost $7 million against the cap, and is signed for four more years.

I’d still be open to swapping garbage with Chicago if it could get Abdelkader or Nielsen off the books, but the thing is that Seabrook’s deal is even worse than those two. Ultimately none of them are NHL-quality players anymore, and of the three Seabrook’s contract has the most remaining years, is the most expensive, and is the most pointless to buy out due to the way it’s structured.

As much complaining as I have done about Abdelkader over the last several years, Abby for Seabs straight up would still be doing the Blackhawks a favor, so even then I’d expect to see picks or prospects coming Detroit’s way.

You’re on the right path here. This is taking in an albatross. The deal doesn’t happen without significant return.

I would love to get Strome out of CHI if possible, as Red suggested. Going Double Dylan for your top two centers might not blow anyone away, but it's solid and sure beats trying to figure who out of Fabbri, Helm, Nielsen, or Filppula sucks the least as your 2C.

Strome strikes me as a guy who has been held back more by opportunity than ability, and I think if he got 18+ minutes per night (as he almost certainly would in Detroit) 70+ points wouldn't be out of the question at all.

Agreed on your Strome comment, Detroit needs a 6’- 2” plus center.

Double Dylan, that is sweet. I’ll get the old NES double dragon graphic and change it if that happened. Nicely done Sven!!

I still hope Ras can come in as a 3rd line guy. Would be a huge help if he can take that spot

Speaking of Ras, the Perfetti buzz I think really picked up when Cosentino mocked him there on Sportsnet and then went on 31thoughts and said he was sure of it. This gets back to Ras because I dug up a couple years of Cosentino's mocks and look at the 2017 edition: https://www.sportsnet.ca/...cies-nolan-patricks-game/

He has some misses too, but he also mocked Kotkaniemi at 3 in 2018.

I think what we learned last year is no one really knows what Yzerman will do, but I definitely trust him to get this call right. Even when Drouin was becoming what he wanted at 3 he turned him into Sergachev. I find myself hoping for one of Rossi, Raymond or Drysdale, but what do I know.

You are dead on. Yzerman could make a good living at the poker table.

Nice find on those posts! I hadn’t seen that

In retrospect, I find it very hard to accept Seabrooks salary on any trade for that long in a flat cap era. Chicgo would have to have a starting point of retaining $2-3M, even then it would have to bring in a very good sweetner. A 1st or Strome and then a 3rd for a 5th in return. Even then it would be limiting in year 3 and 4, unless you buy out SB by then, then you would just extend that hit a couple more years at half value...... Maybe this would prove to cumbersome as Stevie might wish to probe the FA market in earnest in 2-3 yrs. I think taking a big cap hit should be limited to 2-3 yrs MAX!

And there it is. The haul would have to be huge. Keep in mind that if Seabrook has to go on IR, you can flip the cap space to Toronto. Huge risk though
