Did not expect this at all. Rumor Chart people also didn't even have Ottawa on the list. I was thinking Buffalo. I hope Duclair circles back to Ottawa.
- PogBoi

It was ludicrous for Duclair to dump his agent and negotiate on his own in a frozen cap yea. His reasoning being if I can get a $5,000,000 contract that’s $500,000 in my pocket. This thinking may be good if you have been a top scorer for a team for a number of years. Duclair has been with 5 teams in 6 years and hasn’t come close to achieving his projected potential. He started very well with the Sens but hit a big slump mid season. The signing of Dadonov just closed the door, so there will be no more circling back. I hope him well going alone against sharks. Every day that passes means less money!

Yeah, that's true.

I don't want Hoffman back, but for fun - who would you rather have: Hoffman or Duclair (same cap hit)?

I’m excited! We will have a legit roster next year, one of the deepest we’ve had since Alfie was still here. Plus even if all the new guys stick we still have an amazing pipeline of fwd prospects coming behind (Pinto, Greig and the rest of the 2020 class, Abramov, Chlapik, Davidsson, etc). The depth chart is amazing:

Tkachuk-White-Dadonov
Formenton-L Brown-Batherson
C Brown-Norris-Stützle
Anisimov-Tierney-Paul
Ex: Balcers, Watson

Chabot-Zaitsev
Brannstrom-Gudbrannson
J Brown-Wolanin
Ex: Reilly, Zub

Murray
Nilsson/Hogberg

All we would need is one quantity for quality deal for a forward from a cap strapped team (imagine something like Anisimov, Wolanin, Balcers, a lottery protected 1st and a 2nd for Stamkos, or hell just sign Tyler Johnson and bury a contract in the minors) and this is alreadya a borderline playoff team.

^I don't think Stutzle will play this year (maybe max 9 games) because we have enough depth.

I also think Brannstrom will play a large part of the year in Europe or the AHL.

i'm the opposite, I think there is very little chance that Stuetzle doesn't play. Most scouting reports leading up to the draft said he was arguable the most NHL ready prospect in the draft this year. unless he really underwhelms in camp, I can't see him not having a spot on this roster.

I'd swtich the lines up a bit, I also think Formenton will spend most of the year in the AHL (assuming there's a season).

Tkachuk - Tierney - Daddy
C. Brown - Stuetzle - Bath
Norris - L. Brown - Paul
White - Anisimov - Watson
Balcers

Chabot - Gudbrandson
Brannstrom - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Brown/Zub

Murray
Hogberg

I don't think that's a playoff team yet, but I definitely think they'll improve over last year.

First line I'd be putting Tkachuk - White - Daddy to start with, White can be an unbelievable two way forward. But he would use those higher scoring wingers to get his game going.

I go back on forth on starting "first line cenrer"
I'm open to Tierny starting there, and hopefully having two of white norris or brown push him down to the third line by seasons end.

I think Tierney has more offensive abilities than white does and would be a better fit to play with offensive wingers.

personally I think either Brown or Stuetzle will be there before the end of the year anyways, but to start I think Tierney is the better option, he has shown much more consistent offensive ability IMO. obviously neither one is a high skill offensive player, but Tierney would have had his 3rd straight 40+ point season had COVID not shut things down......that's much better than white, who clearly was benefitting from playing on a line with Stone a lot during his 41pt season.

White is no way playing 4th line minutes 🤦‍♂️

Tkachuk White Dadonov
Paul L.Brown C.Brown
Formanton Norris Batherson
Abramov Anisimov Watson

Chabot Gudbranson
Wolanin Zaitsev
Brannstrom Brown
Rielly

Till I see Tierny Balcers signed
Stutzle will play majority of time in AHL

Keep it in your pants boys, this is still a team that will be in the lottery next year.. because newsflash, in order to get into the playoffs, someone has to fall out, and no one is THAT much worse that Ottawa overtakes them. You might finish higher than Buffalo or some other irrelevant team, but this team is multiple seasons away from a playoff participation ribbon.

Exciting to see lineups suggested already - there was a stint there where I didn't think we'd have enough players to ice a team!

Some observations:

- I really hope they try Josh Brown with Chabot - his underlying D metrics are way better than the other options, IE tying Chabby to an anchor in Zaitsev or Gudbranson, and Chabot needs a stay at home guy a la Karlsson/Methot, and J Brown strikes as a Demelo type with less offensive upside.

- In limited sample size, Zaitsev actually performed quite well with - of all options - Mike Reilly. I hope they test that combo more this year because we can't shed Zaitsev without him returning to first NHL year form, and we will definitely want to shed that contract.

- I like hometown boys, but I hope Gudbranson is here for a good time, not a long time.

- I'd pencil Josh Norris as the 1C - he and Tkachuk are very good friends, and if off ice translates to on ice, you have a pair of friends playing together in a year you need to resign Tkachuk to something palatable in a frozen cap era. Stick Dad or Stutzle on the RW.

- There's no way the way this roster is shaping up that Connor Brown is perceived as any more than a 3rd liner, but given the minutes and numbers he got last year, he's gonna get more than 4M+ from a misguided arbitrator like Ceci did. If that's the case, he'll get moved at the deadline IMO, and then we traded real assets to get nothing in the Zaitsev trade, making that trade even more terrible than it already was (a truly awful trade, helping out the Leafs cap crunch by eating Zaitsev without hosing them like the Car/Marleau deal makes it infinitely worse)

I hope it pans out something like this next year:
Tkachuk - Norris - Stutzle - the child line
Dadonov - L. Brown/Tierney - Batherson/White
C. Brown - L. Brown/Tierney - Batherson/White
Balcers - Paul/Anisimov - Watson
Anisimov or Watson riding the pine most of the time (but suspect Balcers finds himself there)

Chabot-Brown/Zub
Wolanin-Hopefully Brannstrom, likely Gudbranson
Reilly/Brannstrom-Zaitsev
Ideally Gudbranson riding the pine, but more likely Reilly/Zub - though Wolanin might not be as good post injury year as we all seem to suspect

Hopefully they pair Daddy up with the right line mates. His production was great on the topline with Barkov. When he was not paired with Barkov his numbers were down.

Good signing by the Sens. And while I do believe there team is much improved, I do think talk of pushing for a playoff spot is premature. Granted, anything can happen....miracle seasons.....lengthy injuries could hit another team, etc.....but take an honest look at the rosters of these teams and ask yourselves if the Sens current roster is a playoff team over five of them (in no particular order).....

Tampa Bay
Boston
Washington
Philly
Toronto
Pittsburgh
Columbus
Carolina
Florida
Montreal
Islanders
Rangers

Sorry Sens fans....I just don't see it happening next year.

I think most sens fans would agree with you. The goal will be to make some improvements, and hopefully move out of the basement. (or maybe some would prefer one more top 4 pick).

The only team I would say Ottawa is definitively better than is Detroit, they'll need to fight to pass teams like the kings, devils ducks, (maybe wild).

I agree that this isn't a team that will compete for the playoffs next year, anyone who says otherwise is delusional. I do think they will improve though, and I think they will be close to teams like Florida, Montreal, Columbus etc.

I don't think Ottawa sniffs a playoff spot until they get NHL ready defensive prospects into the roster (JBD, Sanderson, Thomson) to replace the barely NHL calibre gusy there now ( gudbrandson, brown, zub, etc). our left side is solid and young, but our right side is AHL calibre, and no team will compete for a playoff spot like that.

Dadonov is an unexpected, but welcome addition. The real coup is the term, which aligns really nicely with the eventual ELC/RFA contract transition for several key young players. He won't likely get back to the 70pts season he had in Florida a couple years back, but he adds a consistent 25G scorer to the top-6, has a reasonably good two-way game, and RW/LW versatility.

Plus, if they play Tkachuk-Stutzle-Dadonov together, they have the STD line.

Love this, although it still makes no sense to me that they didn't even qualify Duclair. I'm still hoping he circles back to the Sens when he figures out that no one else has cap room.

I hope he finds a spot somewhere. Most people ive read were sure teams would be lining up, but I was a little more pessimistic since he's been on so many teams in such a short time frame.

Still lots of time though.
