It’s not a question if it was open. It’s a question of whether or not it’s a good idea to call the riskier play. The safe play was to run and take another 30-40 seconds off the clock.

Edit...or make them use the TO

- Ogilthorpe2

Yes it is a question. He has a chance to end it right there. Its a 3 yard pass. The same risk as a fumble.

Remember Jimmy the Greek?
How about Richard Vermeal?

The NFL has always had its fair share of bad commentators.

No, not the same risk. Interception vs fumble are arguably comparable risks. Clock running after a run, vs not running after an incompletion is the more pressing concern.

I would also argue running the ball is a much safer proposition with a rb who doesn't fumble than throwing the ball. So many things can happen when you throw the ball just ask the Seahawks in the super bowl when you have arguably the best inside rb at the time Lynch, and you throw it

It is very true that 70 doesn't sound as old as it used to.

Nah. I am going for the play to end the game right there every time. Plus, Nagy has faith his defense can keep them out of the end zone. Timeout or no timeout. Cause that is the only difference. The time difference is 2-5 seconds. The previous play used all of 3 seconds. Carolina calls TO and gets the ball back anyway with maybe a couple less seconds and 80 yards to go. And yes, no TO but having one TO is much more important in a FG situation.

In any event, Carter-Houston has become the closer. Or Houston-Carter. Damn hyphenated names.

The defense was all world, but that offense was solid too. Above average even with their starting QB out for a large part of the year.

Payton, Suhey, Silky D, Gault, Moorehead...

Plus Calvin Thomas, Dennis Gentry, Timmy Wrightman, Keith Ortego....

Solid.

*edit can’t believe I remembered Ortego and Wrightman, but forgot Kenny Margerum

- Ogilthorpe2

Pretty sure Margerum was gone by then. Tarik Cohen makes Dennis Gentry look like a fullback.

Ask Seattle how their pass on the New England one yard line worked out for them in the Super Bowl a few years ago.

I remember a Bears team where the Defense bailed out the Offence. I think they won aa Super Bowl that year.
- powerenforcer

This ain't that defense, good, but not really as good as 2018.

Equally exciting to today’s NFL anyway.
