Bill, what was it that required a change of scenery for Murray Craven? Contract issues?

It kinda sucks to look back and know that we could have selected kupari or k'andre miller... Hindsight is just what it is but I felt like this pick was such a reach

Let's hope JO gets it together playing against tougher competition this upcoming year

Thank you Bill.

I read that the NHL is insistent (so far) upon starting the season in early Jan, and insistent that it conclude before August. And that this means a likely shorter season, and apparently, there could be clusters of games between same teams over a few days, like Baseball.

I believe this could help the Flyers, primarily because the nearby teams should be weaker (Pens, Rangers, Devils, Caps, even Boston though not Isles). A greater fraction of games against these teams should be to our advantage.

Further, even without the returners;Frost, NP, Lindblom, this is a veteran team in key positions, unlike say Rangers and Devils. If we can avoid our usual lame start, we can use this to our advantage,I hope.

JOB gonna have a productive year and reestablish himself as a a legit prospect. Then in 2 or 3 years he will be a free agent an walk....I wouldn't count him out just yet though he needs to show a pulse this year.

Primarily, yes. I don't think he and Homer were happy with each other at that time, either, before Bill Dineen took over as head coach.

Bill- there is a picture in Flyers history that is etched into my memory. It is of Murray Craven and Rick Tocchet hugging on their knees after Craven scored in OT to complete a comeback over the Caps. They were down 4-1 with 10 minutes left. Ive been searching for the pic to no avail. Are you able to find it within the teams archives?

He doesn't lack a pulse/motor. I do think he came into his first collegiate season perhaps a bit overconfident and it was a shock to his system when he struggled. Also had various injury issues all season including at least one concussion (possibly two). I think it was a tough but valuable learning experience.

I don't think it was necessarily received well at first when he decided to transfer out of Providence after one year -- which necessitated him to sit out an NCAA season and forced him to step down a competition notch to play BCHL if he was to maintain his three remaining seasons of NCAA eligibility -- but he played well. Missed time again due to injury but started and finished strong at the time of the pause/cancellation of the rest of the BCHL season.

This is definitely a big year for him upcoming.

Yeah the one thing i didn't like was him bailing. Fight through it; though obviously don't know all the circumstances. Right now he is out of sight out of mind. Which in his case may be a good thing. Just hope he doesn't end up another Sittler in terms of never making the nhl.

Not good if has had 2 concussions. What were his injuries' in the BCHL?

Broken foot (missed 6 weeks). At Providence, he had shoulder, neck and concussion issues his one season.

I know that picture, I was at that game. I believe we went 7 games with Washington that year and Dale Hunter scored on Hexy in overtime (ouch).
Google "Rick Tocchet Murray Craven", first image that comes up for me.

Is that the photo you remember? I thought the one on the cover of the calendar the next year showed their faces from the opposite angle.
I know it was Game 4 against the Capitals in 1988 and put the Flyers up 3-1 in the series. Of course, it ended in OT of Game 7 when Dale stinkin' Hunter scored. Ugh!! One of very few NHLers I would not have liked on the Flyers.

The things I have done to erode my memory...
The photo posted by Boss Tweed is the cover of the 1988-89 calendar, but there is another photo that barely shows their faces that I somehow remember a little better.
