Good day and happy Friday everyone!
I’m not sure how the weather is where you are, but it’s an absolutely gorgeous of a day here and sitting in this air conditioned office waiting for the business day to retire and the weekend to start is becoming increasingly painful.
Anyways, I would like to take this time to announce that I will no longer be writing for Hockeybuzz following the elimination of the Calgary Flames. I started writing for the site over three years ago in my spare time which I thoroughly enjoyed. As my life became busier with promotions, job changes, and now having a baby boy on the way, I found that my writing and interest levels have diminished.
As such, I’ve decided that it wouldn’t be fair to my readers to put out a poor product as frankly that has been all that I’ve had time to offer, for which I apologize. That being said, the number of people which I’ve befriended from this gig, the contacts I’ve made, the promotions from companies which I’ve received and the appreciation from a Calgary fan-base that I’ve felt over the years has been one hell of a rewarding experience, and I thank you all.
Heck, I remember when I started writing with all of 72 Twitter followers which has turned in to 3700+ since…really goes to show how popular this team truly is around Canada despite their lack of success beyond this current season. I will certainly miss writing for this site and the reactions I could create from expressing an opinion or even going against others.
There are times of change approaching this particular Leafs group, and as I've offered over the past few weeks to months, I am actually excited for the apparent (direction) offered by Shanahan. I feel that after years of watching this team, this is one of few times I can actually say that the Toronto Maple Leafs are doing "X".
Previous years, however, I often found myself saying - "The Leafs appear to be doing "X", but I can see them opt for "Y" and there may be some "Z" in there as well. In order words, there was no clear direction, no one had a damn clue what their goal was beyond taking attempted short cuts to what they felt would be "success", and it hurt to watch from home and not have any say...as if for some reason my opinion would matter, but you understand.
This team has a lot of pain coming their way to be endured that is severely needed as they tear things down right to the last stud that has been a terrible foundation. The band-aid will come off fast and it will hurt a lot at first, but it will allow this sore of a team to heal and hopefully in a few short years be respected in the league where fans no longer need to pick their "playoff teams" every passing year.
With respect to the rest of these playoffs, I will continue to write blogs for you fine folks until the Calgary Flames are eliminated at which point the site will likely be looking to fill the spot. With respect to the Toronto Maple Leafs blogs, Mike has offered some very solid content and I was lucky to write a few blogs a week to supplement what he offered.
I have had a lot of fun writing for this site covering the Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs and it seems that both teams are moving in the right direction which is nice to say.
If you questions about becoming a blogger or would like advice/tips, I will gladly offer what I can!
