When Todd McLellan took over as head coach, The Red Wings went on a 17-5-2 tear. They had been holding a wild card spot until recently (see above) and tonight play a “4 point game” against Ottawa. The Senators have a game in hand and the final wild card spot. With a 3 point lead, a regulation win doesn’t get Detroit back into position, but it sets the table more favorably for the final 19.

Trade Deadline day didn’t see any significant pieces come over, though we did see Joe Veleno head out of town. It’s on the players in the room to find an intense run to get to the finish. The price tags for impact players seemed to (mostly) have a first round draft pick in the price. That day may come, but it wasn’t the year for Detroit to part with that.

Let me know what you hope to see and where you think it all ends up.
