We have a long way to go, and a short time to get there. |

Seven points out with 16 to go. It is not impossible. The past two seasons in the East it has taken 92 points to make the post season dance. So the Thrashers have to find 28 points after Saturday’s shootout loss. So this would mean the Thrashers would need a record of 13-1-2, 14-2-0, or 12-0-4 to meet that point total. The Islanders finished with 83 points in 2003 to make the playoffs, but the average 8th place point total for the past 6 seasons is 88.83 points. To make 89 the Thrashers would have to go 12-3-1 or a similar combination. They would also have to leap frog 2 teams in the SE or 5 in the East to make the playoffs. Impossible. No. Improbable. Yes
With all this said, I like the way Christenson and Army are fitting in. The Thrashers have toughened up a little. The hit counts have been closer with our opponents, but as I have stated since the beginning of the season, when the opponent is consistently putting 25% - 33% more shots on net you have one heck of a hole to pull yourself out of.
Next up, we play the Penguins tomorrow in Pittsburgh. We need two points. I know 3 out of 4 points is a lot to ask, but if we are indeed in a playoff push, it will be necessary. Even though we have got 2 points, we are 0-4-2 in the last 6. Entering Pittsburgh, they will be coming off playing today in Ottawa. Hossa will not be in the lineup. I think the Thrashers pull this through. I say 4-3. Since we saw Moose today, I would expect Lehts tomorrow.
Also, if you haven’t seen it already, you should check out Daniel Tolensky’s Daily Show blog. It is one of the ones I usually check out, and he is looking for fans to submit their state of the franchise. So step up Thrashers fans and show your skills.
