Today at noon marks the official opening of free agency in the NHL world which figures to be somewhat of a slow roll for the Sabres. That doesn’t mean there won’t be any moves today, though, so strap in and we’ll see what happens with pending Sabres UFAs Jake McCabe and Linus Ullmark among others. Perhaps there will even be a Jack Eichel trade at some point in the day.
Yesterday saw the Sabres re-sign Drake Caggiula to a one year, $750k deal. The deal is a one-way deal, meaning that Caggiula is paid the $750k whether he’s in Buffalo or Rochester. Caggiula potted 2 goals and 1 assist in 11 games as a Sabre while shooting at 13.3%. His advanced metrics aren’t any more exciting than those scoring numbers as his greatest positive impact comes on the penalty kill rather than at 5-on-5. For $750k he’s a fine insurance policy as an extra forward.
Stay tuned throughout the day for the latest updates.
