The Carolina Hurricanes announced yesterday that they’ve signed defenseman Josh Jacobs to a one-year contract, worth $750,000.

Jacobs is 25 years old and was originally selected by the New Jersey Devils with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. He’s played three career NHL games but has spent the majority of the last five seasons in the AHL and this past season, Jacobs managed three assists in 19 games with the Binghamton Devils.

Based on Carolina’s crowded defense group, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Jacobs win a spot with the Hurricanes, though he will provide some depth in case of injuries.
