The Anaheim Ducks have signed forwards Mason McTavish and Sasha Pastujov, as well as defenseman Olen Zellweger to three-year, entry-level contracts. All three players were selected by the team in this year’s NHL Draft and the Ducks did not release the financial terms of the contracts.
McTavish was selected by the Ducks with the third-overall pick, after posting nine goals and 11 points in 13 games while playing professional hockey in Switzerland. It’s unclear as to how quickly the Ducks may plan to transition him to the NHL, though he does project as a future top-six, scoring center.
Zellweger, was taken by Anaheim with the 34th overall pick, after scoring 13 points in 11 games with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips this past season. Given that he won’t be eligible to play in the AHL next season, it’s likely that Zellweger will return to the Silvertips.
Pastujov was selected with the 66th overall pick. His numbers with the U.S. National Team Development Program were extremely impressive, scoring 30 goals and 65 points in 41 games, and 10 goals and 26 points in 18 USHL games.
