recapping the 2020 draft was an interesting glance. Apart from the three players who’ve signed their ELCs, another prospect jumped off the page, and that was Alex Cotton.

My observations were as follows:
Alex Cotton, selected at 132 (5th round) is another right shot defenseman, standing at 6’2”. In a shortened WHL campaign last year, he posted 26 points (7g 19a) in 24 games, 4th among WHL defensemen. Still unsigned, seems to have promise as an offensive Dman. Not certain where he will play this year.

Having been passed over in the 2019 draft, the defenseman trained hard that summer. Cotton broke out and had 20 goals and 47 assists in 65 games. It was a huge jump from 2 goals and 9 assists in 54 games the year before.

I’ve posted his draft year highlight reel and post draft interview above. There was a nice mix of wrist shots and slap shots. He can drive the net and shoot far side, or shoot from the point. Of course, it remains to be seen what his scoring will do as he climbs into the higher leagues, but this is definitely a young player I will be keeping an eye on.

Here’s a quick look at an overtime winner from March.

Yesterday, I wrote about the gap between Detroit and Vrana.

Detroit still doesn’t have a top 6 right shot forward.

The second line continues to inch toward improving.

I have high (possibly too high) hopes for the top line this year.

The Griffins are worth the drive, at least I think so.

My third “looking forward” looked at Pius Suter.

My second “looking forward” focused on Alex Nedeljkovic.

My first “looking forward” talked about Moritz Seider.

Jakub Vrana and Adam Erne have filed for arbitration.

I posted Pius Suter’s Zoom call

I did a wrap up of the “Frenzy”.
