Kevin Allen did a nice piece in Detroit Hockey Now listing the roster for the prospect’s tournament. Sadly, Seider won’t be on the team. That’s an impressive endorsement of his spot on the team. I recently did a perspective piece on what it takes for a prospect to make it to the team:

10 Days Until Prospect Camp

Wings in Denver:

I’ve posted a bit about Frolunda as Detroit has a few players developing on that team. The University of Denver is another team I’ll be keeping an eye one. One of Yzerman’s 2019 picks (Tuomisto) and 2 from this year (Buium and Mazur) will all don the crimson.

Only Tuomisto has a collegiate season under his belt already. Below I’ve listed some of their bio information. Tuomisto did well with minutes (23) and garnered 11 pts (2,9) in 24 games. Because of Seider’s development, it’s easy to forget that there’s another big right shot developing from the “Yzer-draft” (come on, every player wore 19 that year. That’s fantastic).

Some of you like to get updates now and again. I’ll do my best to keep tabs. In reality, only 1-3 picks make it to the NHL in a good draft. Tuomisto had some early praises (as does Buium). We’ll see how these big defensemen fair over the next season.

University of Denver Men’s Ice Hockey.

Antti Tuomisto 2019 unsigned - 6’5” right shot defenseman listed at 210 lbs. Last year was his first with the program. He tallied 2 goals and 9 assists in 24 games played. He averaged under 2 shots per game (45 total). He ended up a -2 with 23 minutes average ice time. One of his goals was short handed.

His bio excerpt on the website is as follows:

Shai Buium 2021 unsigned. 2nd round pick this year (36), Buium is listed as 6’3” and 220lbs (left shot). He’s garnered early credit as a “third first round pick” for Detroit. His bio excerpt on the website is as follows:

Before Denver: 50-game season with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL in 2020-21, tallying 26 points on four goals and 22 assists from the blue line…+16 rating in his latest USHL campaign…Highest point total in his pre-collegiate career came as a member of Shattuck St. Mary’s 16U AAA Team in 2019-20, where he posted 57 points in 46 games on 14 goals and 43 assists.

Carter Mazur 2021 unsigned - 3rd round pick (70th) listed at 6’0” 173 lbs. right shooting left wing. Big cheers in the Jackson area (Spring Arbor) when this Michigan Native was drafted. His bio excerpt on the website is as follows:
