Frolunda won 2-0 Earlier today. And, Detroit found a lot of scoring in Traverse City. Boy, they needed it. It’s a whole different conversation at the end of the third than it was at the beginning of the third. After two, “Detroit has scored 5!” After 3, “Detroit needed 5 and almost lost the lead”.

A win is worth celebrating. Brattstrom is a big reason. Dallas did their best to use him as a combination punching bag and recliner, and it nearly paid off. 3 goals in the third and the goalie very nearly had to leave. The end of game scuffle was a long time coming, and you do not want to see teams beating up your netminder.

Tyutyayev, Kirill the mini thrill, seemed to deliver on Horcoff’s promise as a player to watch as he notched 2 goals. Chase Pearson cashed in as well. Berggren set up both of his linemates goals in a nice 2 on 1 pass to Raymond and a takeaway in the corner that led to Veleno’s tally. Lots of good things to see.

On the other side, Dallas had controlled the 2nd period and found their scoring in the third. I’m hoping to get a box score at some point, so I can get a better look at some of the numbers. There were some gaffes/turnovers and lost faceoffs that were tough to watch. A lot of this is players shaking the rust and adjusting. I’d like to see Berggren taking draws at some point this weekend. He impressed me with his work in the corners and can hang onto the puck. Raymond got better as the game went on. Veleno looks to have put on some muscle, and had some strong shifts. In the first, he had two wrist shots from just inside the blue line that nearly made it in. Nice heavy, low shots that would deflect well with the right netfront.

It’s good to have hockey being played. It will be interesting to see what adjustments are made between tonight and Saturday. In all honesty, Dallas could well have taken the game if Detroit hadn’t had 2 periods of really strong goaltending. Hopefully Brattstrom isn’t hurt, but he took some nasty shots. That’s a situation where you really want someone on the ice who can “police” the situation. As much as the pure “enforcer” is gone from the game, you have to protect the goalie.

The kids will be back in action on Saturday at 7:00 (broadcast starts at 6:40) against St. Louis. Hopefully the team will look a little sharper and more in sync. Definitely some exciting stuff, and I thought Pearson and Tyutyayev stole the show for the first 2 periods (along with the goalie of course). Hope you enjoyed it!
