As many of you likely have heard already, Dave Gagner, Director of Player Development has left the organization to join the Orr Hockey Group player agency in a similar capacity.
And when someone leaves such a high profile job, instantly, there are idiots making dumb subjections, like this is all Tortorella-to-he was pissed at the Canucks.
Well, I for one don't think much of those types of conspiracy theories. I've found in my experiences that 99 per cent of the times, when someone leaves a job it's because they want to go in a different direction.
My best guess is that Gagner was offered a job, where he gets to spend more of his time located in his home province and sleep in his own bed, work with Bobby Orr and be a partner in one of the better hockey agencies around. That to me seems like a pretty good offer, that a lot of people would leave their jobs for.
So now that we got all the rumours killed, who's a fit to replace the fairly average job that Gagner has done for the past five years?
My answer: Chris Chelios
He's my No. 1 choice for the job. He has seen and done pretty much everything there is to do in the game. Add to that, he knows everything about conditioning and you have the ideal candidate for the job.
For the past two seasons, Chelios, has worked as advisor to hockey operations for the Red Wings. In that time he has worked closely with both the front office and the coaching staff along with helping mentor and develop young players.
After getting two years of seasoning in what many consider the best run team in the NHL, I believe Chelios is the ideal guy to take over for Gagner.
Would you hire Chris Chelios for the job?
If not, who?
Until tomorrow my friends, stay classy
Ian
