The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they’ve re-sign defensemen Simon Benoit and Urho Vaakanainen, along with goalie Olle Eriksson Ek.
Benoit’s deal is for one year and carries a $750,000 cap hit. The defenseman is 23 years old and played 53 games with the Ducks this past season, registering five points.
While he didn’t take on a huge role with the team, his strong performance as a rookie was a pleasant surprise and he should be a solid depth defender for the team next season.
Eriksson Ek is 23 years old also signed a one-year deal at a $750,000 cap hit. The netminder struggled in the AHL last season, posting just an .880 save percentage in 26 games with the San Diego Gulls.
Vaakanainen is also 23 years old and his two-year contract will carry a $850,000 cap hit. The defenseman was acquired from the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline, as part of the Hampus Lindholm deal. He split last season between the NHL and AHL and played 14 games with the Ducks after the trade.
