It’s do or die for the New York Islanders tonight, as they face the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7 of their second round series.
The Islanders have blown two chances to end the series and completely outplayed the Flyers in Game 6 but just couldn’t get the win.
The biggest question for the Islanders will be who starts in net. Semyon Varlamov struggled a bit in Game 6 and was outplayed by Carter Hart, so with another capable goalie available in Thomas Greiss, the Islanders have a decision to make. Greiss played great in his one start of the series, as well as when he was called upon after Varlamov was pulled in Game 2. He’s stopped 56 of 59 shots so far in the series and I think I’d side with putting Greiss in.
If the Islanders can repeat what we saw from them in Game 6, they’ve got a really good shot tonight. At times throughout the series, they’ve dominated the Flyers but they need to avoid going down early. Too many times now, they’ve given up multiple goals to start a game and have been forced to battle back.
Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
