The New York Islanders signed forward Anatolii Golyshev to a one-year contract yesterday.

Golyshev signing with the Islanders, while less talked about than Ilya Sorokin coming to North America, was still rumoured for quite a long time. Golyshev is a 26-year-old winger who was selected by the Islanders in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft and has spent his entire career in Russia. This year, he scored 12 goals and 27 points in 53 KHL games.

Statistically, Golyshev is somewhat comparable to Ilya Mikheyev on the Toronto Maple Leafs, with their stats from the KHL compared below:

KHL season at 23 years old: Golyshev: 0.35 G/GP, 0.74 P/GP
KHL season at 23 years old: Mikheyev: 0.35 G/GP, 0.70 P/GP

KHL season at 24 years old: Golyshev: 0.29 G/GP, 0.66 P/GP
KHL season at 24 years old: Mikheyev: 0.37 G/GP, 0.73 P/GP

We can likely expect Golyshev to factor in as a potential third-line winger for the team in the coming years, though it remains to be seen as to what the immediate plan is for him. Regardless, him signing is certainly a win for the Islanders.

Golyshev will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
