The Los Angeles Kings selected Liam Greentree with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the NHL Draft today.
The Kings had moved back in the first round prior to the draft, dealing their 21st overall pick to the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for the 26th pick, as well as picks 57 and 198.
Greentree posted great numbers in his sophomore OHL season, scoring 36 goals and 90 points in 64 games with the Windsor Spitfires. He was already serving as the team’s captain despite his age, and was ranked by many to go prior to where the Kings were able to select him.
On paper, it’s a really solid add for the Kings, despite gathering some other assets for moving back in the draft. Los Angeles’ prospect pool isn’t looking quite as strong as it did a few years ago, but Greentree is a good addition.
The Kings have five more picks for Day 2 of the NHL Draft tomorrow.
