This was supposed to be a review of the polls for the week but that's going to be pushed to tomorrow because this news is far more exciting. According to Igor Eronko, Ilya Sorokin won't be re-signing with CSKA and once he's able to, he'll be signing with the New York Islanders.
This was rumoured for a long time and while it's not official yet, it now seems all but certain Sorokin is on his way to join the Islanders. For those who are unfamiliar with Sorokin, he was selected by the Islanders in the third round of the 2014 draft and has been a star in the KHL, basically ever since. He had a .935 save percentage in 40 KHL games this year, which ridiculously, is only his third-highest over his last five seasons.
I imagine next season, he doesn't take over the starter's job right away and is likely to split time with Semyon Varlamov, in a similar way to how Varlamov and Thomas Greiss shared a lot of the work this year. This also pretty much guarantees Greiss will not be back with the Islanders next season.
Essentially, everything points to Sorokin being a star in the NHL and becoming New York's starter for a long time. This is very, very exciting news for the Islanders.
