Detroit’s 5th straight win came on the back of another impressive night in net as Talbot stopped 33 of 34 shots with a .971 sv%. The tandem of Talbot and Lyon have been incredible on this road trip so far as Detroit wins their 2nd straight in the Western Canadian swing.

Detroit also blocked 23 shots on the night. The defensive shuffling has seen some impressive results. Johansson and Edvinsson look really good at times, and Johansson played a part (though not on the score sheet) of a beauty of a goal by Edvinsson. The big Dman seems to be finding confidence as he continues to grow in the role and had the game winner. Shine got his first NHL point on an assist for Larkin’s opening tally.

Very similar vibes to post Christmas last year where Lyon gave Detroit some stellar performances and Talbot has been solid for the group as well. The “net gains” have been a big part of the group as they have now strung together 2 win streaks under coach McLlellan. It will be interesting to see how the group performs as the trades are picking up and team dynamics are starting to shift. Vancouver made a big move sending Miller back to NYR as the internal rift had become big enough to warrant a presser.

The above embed is made up of the goals the team scored again, I hope you enjoy it!

1st Period goals:

Larkin struck first scoring his 23rd of the season. The captain took a pass from the halfwall, skated to the net and snapped it home. 1-0 DET

Edvinsson netted his 5th with just 46 seconds left in the first period. Johansson collected the puck at the blue line, got it to Soderblom who quickly moved it to Berggren. JB found the big blue liner as he skated in from the left point and snapped a beauty from the faceoff dot. 2-0 DET

Shots: 12-8 CGY
Score: 2-0 DET

2nd Period goals:

No goals scored

Shots: 25-16 CGY
Score: 2-0 DET

3rd Period goals:

At 8:33 in the third Calgary struck on the power play. 2-1 DET

at 10:06 Andrew Copp sealed it up, getting his 10th of the season. Calgary had pulled the goalie, Debrincat chipped the puck off the wall from just outside the offensive zone and straight toward the net and Copp skated down for the tap in. 3-1 DET

Shots: 34-24 CGY
Score: 3-1 DET
