Even in the final moments, Cam Talbot put an exclamation point on a game where he delivered 32 saves on 33 shots with one final big save. Detroit has now taken the season series winning the first 2 of 3 games against Florida. The team got a lot from the crease as the game went on and especially in the 3rd.
Of course a 2-0 game turned into a 2-1 game in the final minutes to add drama, but the team has to be grateful for what they got in net from the veteran net minder. The final stretch is at the very least exciting as Debrincat continues to tick along with 35 goals on the year. Raymond grabbed his 49th assist, and Kasper made a slick play to get Compher the puck for what would be the game winner in the 2nd period. Kasper continues to impress with decision making, willingness to take on physicality and creative playmaking.
It was a good weekend for the organization as Grand Rapids got a massive injection with the return of Watson and Shine. The team seemed to find their swagger, and Detroit had wins on both sides of the state. A glimpse at the future and some excitement for the present. If you missed it, Grand Rapids scored 15 goals in 2 games (back to back) against Rockford. Nice contributions from Lombardi, Danielson and Watson.
Of course I’d be remiss not to congratulate Alex Ovechkin for taking over 1st place as the NHL’s all time goal scorer. Wayne Gretzky showed immense class, as did the Islander organization and fans, in a very special moment. One I honestly didn’t think I’d see in my lifetime just 6 or 7 years ago. At 39 the Great 8 has broken 40 goals again and may well hit the 900 mark if he stays hot for the final stretch. Whether he does or not, well done indeed.

At 4:37 Debrincat opened the scoring on the power play with his 35th of the year. In the final seconds of the man advantage Kane skated the puck into the zone, Debrincat and Raymond made some quick passes and Debrincat settled a feed from Raymond and snapped it far side. 1-0 DET

At 11:23 Compher doubled the lead with his 10th of the season. Petry started with the puck deep in the Dzone. He passed to Kasper in the neutral zone, Kasper fed the puck to Compher near the blue line and JT skated to nearly the same spot where Debrincat scored snapping a shot far side. 2-0 DET
