Good morning Devils fans. The Red and Black defeated the Rangers handedly at home last with a score of 5-2. The theme of last night’s success has to be the power play, which went for 3 for 5 under the new systems designed by AC Travis Green. The scoring was kicked off by Jesper Bratt, who grabbed a pass from Jack Hughes and Ondrej Palat during a quick post face off board scrum. Luke Hughes would go on to score thirty seconds later from the point, thanks to Palat and Dawson Mercer. A quick pass from Alexander Holtz during the rush would set up a rushing combo of Meier and Hischier with the captain’s shot hitting the pipe.

Rangers HC Peter Laviolette made some defensive adjustments going into the second period, which would lead to a quick Will Cuylle goal to cut the lead 2-1. Mercer would bring back the two goal lead on the power play, finishing a chance from a crashing Meier on the left side coming in. Rangers would roar back again, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 with Adam Fox finishing the chance. Jack Hughes would end up grabbing a beauty of a one-timer during another power play, going glove side top shelf.

The third period’s only scoring contribution came courtesy of an open-net Nico Hischier goal. A Rangers power play goal by Jimmy Vesey was called back due to high sticking. The period was more of a physical back and forth with gritty hits on either end of the bench. On the subject of hitting, the Rangers led the Devils 26-18 but had their power plays mostly stifled, going 1 for 4. Overall, a pretty solid effort, especially for the Devils special teams.
