Well it's GroundHog Day. And going by how January went with snow and temperatures, I don't need a furry rodent to tell me if we're having 6 more weeks of winter. Breaking news, we are. Write that down. Although, it is supposed to rain in Toronto tomorrow.
Onto the Leafs. They scored more than 1 goal last night, breakout the bubbly. Toronto had some offence back last night, Tavares, Pacioretty and Knies were back, each had missed multiple games.
Knies scored, Tavares had an assist, and Pacioretty obstructed Skinner's view. Triple threat.
Woll faced 48 shots, so he was literally a Wall. It tied the most shots he's ever faced in a game, another 4-3 Leafs win, that one was in TB in 2023 (that rhymes). Leafs avoided their first 4 game losing streak of the season. McDavid was held to his 10th pointless game of the season. Think about this, he's had 9 games this season with 3 or more points.
Nylander became the 5th player this season with 30 goals on the campaign. Four straight seasons of 30 goals or more. His career high is 40, which he did the previous two seasons. Matthews won the Rocket Richard Trophy last season, since the invention of the award in 98-99, no team has won back to back Richards, with two different players.
Next up for Toronto is a visit to Calgary on Tuesday evening. Flames face the Kraken on Sunday.
Right now the Leafs are second in Atlantic and Ottawa is third, mmmmm, who wants that playoff match up?
Wild Wild Card in the East, 7 points separate WC1 which is Columbus and Pittsburgh who are ninth in the WC chase. There's a lot of losing streaks that can't happen.
