The Trois-Rivieres Lions hosted the Adirondack Thunder (New Jersey Devils) on Friday at Colisee Videotron and headed on the road for a doubleheader against the Worcester Railers (New York Islanders) on Saturday and Sunday.
Jacob Paquette opened the scoring with a shot from the blue line that found its way to the back of the net through traffic. The Lions added two goals in the final two minutes of the first period. First, Tyler Holland used the free space in front of him in the slot to score, and 0:47 later, Logan Nijhoff used the screen in front of him to make it a three-goal game. Midway through the second period, Nijhoff redirected Xavier Cormier’s pass for a power play goal. Morgan Adams-Moisan added to the lead by tipping Hylland’s shot for goal. Nijhoff completed his hat trick in the third period during a power play with Trois-Rivieres’ only shot on goal of the final 20 minutes. The Thunder broke Luke Cavallin’s shutout bid with a goal at the 8:05 mark.
"We had two good periods, but I'm not very happy with the third period. I spoke to the players about it. If we want to go deep in the playoffs and be a contender, there are aspects of our game that need to be cleaned up,” coach and general manager Ron Choules said.
The Lions got on the board during their first power play with Chris Jandric blasting the puck from the blue line to the back of the net. Hylland doubled the lead on the following power play when he picked up a rebound for goal. Israel Mianscum made it a three-goal game before the intermission when he took advantage of the goalie being out of position to score. The Railers capitalized on a power play to cut the lead in the second period. Early in the third, Justin Ducharme was in the crease area to knock in rebound and make it a three-goal game again. Worcester did not give up and answered back with three goals in 4:25 while the goalie was pulled to force overtime. They completed the comeback with the winning goal in overtime.
The Railers had a commanding 4-0 lead into the second period when Ducharme set up Nijhoff for a one-timer goal. Hylland cut the lead to two during a power play with a goal for a third consecutive game. Choules pulled his goalie for the extra attacker late in the third period and it cost them a goal. Trois-Rivieres obtained a power play and Nijhoff picked up a rebound. With under one second remaining, Nijhoff completed his second hat trick in three days to make it a one-goal game.
