The organization hosted its first affiliation night of the history of the young franchise. For the occasion, Canadiens alumnis Gilbert Delorme, Francis Bouillon, David Desharnais, and Mathieu Dandenault were present. Public Address Announcer Michel Lacroix, organist Diane Bibeau, Youppi, and Rocket mascot Cosmo participated in the event. For the match, the Lions players wore a special jersey in the colours of the Canadiens. Unfortunately for the 3,245 fans at Colisee Videotron, the Admirals dominated the entire evening and shut out Trois-Rivieres by a score of 4-0.
“We had a bad one in the system. We're missing key pieces, but no one is going to use that as an excuse. We worked hard, but poorly. It wasn't the style of play we wanted to offer. We will learn from this,” coach and general manager Ron Choules said. “The adrenaline was there with the Canadiens jersey we were wearing. It was a great night thanks to our marketing department. I think we tried too hard at times. We have to keep our game simple and put pucks on net.”
Trois-Rivieres’ struggles to generate offence versus Norfolk carried over to the rematch. The Admirals scored twice in the second period before the Lions got on the board in the third period when Justin Ducharme made a cross ice pass to set up Israel Mianscum for a one-timer goal during a power play. The visitors added an empty net goal with 1:13 remaining to put the game out of reach.
The Lions got on the board early when Morgan Adams-Moisan’s pass attempt from the back of the net hit a defender’s skate before fooling the goalie. Later in the period, on the team’s first power play opportunity, Chris Jandric handed the puck to Anthony Beauregard and he used the space in front of him to drive to the net and shoot the puck inside the net.
Before the intermission, Adams-Moisan added to the lead when jumping on a rebound in the crease area. Jonathan Yantsis created separation by redirecting Brycen Martin’s point shot for a goal in the second period. The home team continued their attack in the final period with three goals. First, Nicolas Guay fought off a defender before going to the top corner.
Yantsis followed with a breakaway goal between the goalies' pads, and Beauregard finished the afternoon with a shot that hit his face before crossing the line. Luke Cavallin made 31 saves to earn a second shutout this season.
Long-Term Commitment to City
The city of Trois-Rivieres and Spire Hockey, owners of the Lions, announced the signing of a new lease that will link the two parties for at least seven years. The deal will see the club pay the city $675,000 annually for occupying the Colisee Videotron. There are two five-year options to extend the agreement.
