Apologies for the day delay on this blog but life from time to time does get in the way of other things. Regardless I have returned with a blog for you all on this wonderful Friday.
Today I am joined by Jimbro who has provided a list for the Rangers. Take it away!
NEW YORK RANGERS PROTECTION LIST
FORWARDS
Artemi Panarin (NMC)
Chris Kreider (NMC)
Mika Zibanejad (NMC)
Pavel Buchnevich
Filip Chytil
Julien Gauthier
Brendan Lemieux
DEFENSE

Ryan Lindgren

Rangers will have a difficult choice of who to leave exposed at forward
in the expansion draft.
Basically it comes down to protecting two of the following 4 forwards:
Gauthier, Howden, Strome and Lemieux
They traded a very promising defensive prospect in Joey Keane to
Carolina to acquire the former first round pick in Julien Gauthier, and it
seems very unlikely they would leave him exposed, so he will most
definitely be protected.
Brendan Lemieux gives the team a toughness and forechecking element
almost non- existent in the rest of their roster.
They will leave Strome and Howden unprotected and hope Seattle
takes Strome and his 4.5 mil cap hit.

The Rangers as mentioned above will have a few tough choices to make and some interesting players are available. Let's take a closer look.
Ryan Strome - The 27 year old centre just signed a two year extension that will take him to free agency afterwards. Strome had a career high 59 point season, playing some gravy minutes with Artemi Panarin. That being said Strome's underlying numbers are still solid and his 18 goals on an 11.7 SH% are sustainable numbers as well.
Brett Howden - The 22 year old will likely spend most of his season as a fourth or perhaps third line centre for the Rangers but there is still potential and room for him to grow. This season will be a growth year for the player and will be one to watch all season from Seattle's perspective.
Libor Hajek - The 22 year old shutdown defender hasn't been able to crack the Rangers roster permanently yet. Plays big but likely maxes out as a third pairing option in the future.
SEATTLE SELECTS.....
Ryan Strome
Jimbro seemed to think Seattle would take Strome and I have a hard time disagreeing, unless Brett Howden takes a massive leap forward. Some will be quick to point out Strome only started producing higher once paired with Panarin and while that is true to an extent, Strome held his own. He produced at the 5th best ESG/60 and 4th best ESP/60 and as I mentioned previously his numbers suggest these are sustainable. Strome would certainly continue to get top six minutes in Seattle and maybe a smart free agent signing or two can ensure he has successful wingers to play with and keep up this pace.
