Thanks, as always, for your hard work Bill. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 11/9/13 vs. Edmonton - bmeltzer
Thank god Bryz isn't starting for them today. I can't imagine the circus that would've been. Not to mention if he got a shutout.
That said, whatever goalie starts today for Edmonton is practically guaranteed a good day. |

Bill, great job as always but I just can't get excited for this team. Nothing they do screams of the 'Flyers way'. I usually have faith they have a plan in place, even in 2006-07 I liked the moves they made after the dismal start and looked forward to the coming seasons but nothing this group has done has given me any hope at this point. I don't see a trade(s) coming that could correct it and the draft coming up doesn't look too promising next year. Please tell me they are not going the Penguins way and tanking multiple seasons to try and stockpile talent, please! That's just so lame and unfair to a loyal fan base. |

Pretty sure Hall, Perron, and Joensu will be in the lineup today. |

Bill, its like watching Groundhog Day for the Flyers over and over. Bill Murray playing Berube.......
Actually they blind the fans by signing overpaid old players in the offseason , silk purse out of a sows ear cliche.
I wouldnt mind them tanking like the Pens and saying they are rebuilding, but being owned by Comcast prevents them from whining and hissyfitting like Mario did as the poor bankrupt Pens owner, threatening to move and getting casino money plus 25-35 mill from the state to help build their arena (our tax money
)
Nor will the league make a Flyers player their poster boy like they did with their boytoy Crosby and rescind suspensions to top players in the finals like they did with Malkin.
Can you see the Flyers ever getting the same coddling treatment like the Pens ? Never happen,so theres no sense in tanking it, |

Heard that as well but went by listings on the Oilers' official site to be on conservative side. |

.....and don't forget the only draft lottery in major sport that takes place in a back room and then staged for the cameras later.......just in case the Flyers do finish dead last and the elite pickings are thin! |

Good morning Bill
Whats your take on all the trade rumors concerning the Flyers, do you feel that a deal is imminent? - BiggE
I think they are talking with a lot of teams, including Edmonton. I also think that now is a bad time to trade because Philly is dealing from a position of weakness, and other GMs want them to blink first.
I will also add this. I was talking with Scoop Cooper before Thursday's game. Scoop knows most of the scouts, especially the veteran ones. The consensus among other teams' scouts is that they've seen enough of the Flyers to know there are very few, if any, players who have impressed them.

If its L schenn and Simmonds for hemsky and let's say a 2nd Im doing it. It's obvious from the rumors nobody's touching hartnell with a Hal gill stick |

Yeah, let's sell low on two solid young players for a guy EDM's been trying to give away for months (if not years), and a 2nd-rounder in a weak draft. Sounds like a plan. |

Not really sure what to expect today.
It's not surprising, but it's still disheartening that scouts from other teams are seeing what we're seeing. You always hope that, even if you're losing, that there are maybe things on film or things that talent evaluators are seeing that those of us who are just fans wouldn't necessarily notice.
We're not good. Most of us already knew that.
It's a little disheartening to realize that it might be even worse than we realized. |

Hemsky would flourish in the east. Not sure why everyone thinks he's so terrible. Contract is a little inflated but he's a very talented player.
ETA: I would have NO problem signing Hemsky to another extension at the end of the year either. The only reason he's become somewhat expendable is because of Yakupov (whom he happens to be out performing at the moment). |

Just chiming in now.. Glad Bryz is back in the NHL.. It's so ironic that he used to beak off about how desolate Winnipeg is, now he's in an even more desolate spot in Edmonton... lol
As someone said, thank God he's not starting for the Oilers today, it would have been hilarious to see him shut us out... |

Part of the issue with Hemsky is the flyers are at a crossroads more so than I can ever remember... do they sell off the older players and go entirely young or do they try and put a few pieces like hemsky in the lineup and try and turn this around. Its disheartening because giving up is not in their DNA, or ours as flyer fans, but at this point it might be the best option. |

No offense bill but this "position of weakness" is the worst excuse I've ever heard of. Under that theory our position will only get worse because we continue to lose and look worse as a team and therefore are more desperate. So when and how does the position turn from weakness to strength? When we get better? If we could get better we wouldn't need the trades then in theory. Yeah teams will try to lowball offer for players at first but as long as you stick to your guns a fair trade can always be made. Key of course is just not to trade stupidly |

And to further my point, if scoop is correct that scouts all of a sudden aren't that impressed with our players that had to change because up until mid last season coots had selke potential, scheen bros were progressing, read was very underrated, etc... Now just because team isn't performing the scouts all of a sudden aren't "impressed" ? Better pull trigger now then because as every poopty game, week, month, that go by it'll get worse |

while i don't necessarily disagree with you i think a lot has to do with market timing. a couple seasons ago coots, schenn + would fetch weber, or coots+ could have gotten subban possibly the season after the weber OS... now these two won't fetch nearly as much because the team has been losing for a couple seasons now, their 'potential' factor diminishes every game they play for better or for worse (and lately that's been for worse), and lastly homer's job is on the line and the other GMs know it so they will wait for him to get desperate. Its all about timing and right now bill is correct - if they do sell - they are selling low. jmo. |

great, two 24/25 yr olds who have played well in the past but struggling now for a 30 yr old UFA. Homer does that, I want him fired now |
