Looking at the leaked list for the Kraken my initial reaction is meh. They won't be very good. However I said the same thing about Vegas when they announced their picks. So until tonight then. But if that leaked list is any indicator Francis is taking on no bad contracts. Makes me wonder how many side deals were made if any. |

I’m wondering the same. Part of me is wondering if a side deal is why Detroit’s pick hasn’t been leaked yet. May still be “in the works”. Regardless, Detroit is a vault under Yzerman. The Mantha trade and now this, zero heads up. |

I like how Yzerman works. I trust in the process.

With the amount of defensemen Seattle already has, i'm not sure Stecher is the guy they pick. Svetchnikov or Namestnikov seem more likely now. Maybe they are working on a Bertuzzi+ trade to Seattle for their 2nd overall pick + a player(s) they drafted that Yzerman wants.
Wings send Bertuzzi plus the 6th for the 2nd overall, Dunn or Oleksiak and Geekie or Gourde? |

That would be impressive. I have no clue. Many props will come your way if something like that shakes out |

I doubt it happens but you never know with Yzerman though...trades with him always come out of nowhere it seems. It's odd that the Wings are the only one that the Seattle pick has not leaked yet. |

I said a while back maybe Yzerman offers the 22nd pick, a second round pick, third round pick in 2021 and one of the 3 fourth round picks the Wings have in 2022, plus they take Stecher and another player. Maybe Neilson for cap compliance. All that for Seattle 1st round pick. Leave Detroit with the 2nd and 6th pick in the 1st round. Still have a 2nd and 3rd round pick etc.. |

I have to admit I’m a bit stunned. Delay on release being blamed on Cholowski being unavailable for much of the day. All the best to DC. |

Rather him over Stetcher, just because I know Stetcher is serviceable and they could get something for him at the deadline. I wasn't sold on Cholo when it came down to it this season, a bit like Athanasiou, frustrating to watch because you know there's a potentially great player in there held back by a lot of inconsistency. I don't think Cholowski pans out as anything more than a 6/7 career D. |

Best of luck to Cholowski. He could use a fresh start and I genuinely hope he makes the most of it.
Very pleased we didn't lose Stecher. |

When you are among a handful of players potentially selected in the draft, how do you become unavailable for most of the day? Unreal!! He didn't have his phone handy to see if he would be joining a new franchise? Was he watching Netflix all day or playing 36 holes of golf? So glad to be rid of this guy.
For the record, I said on draft day he would be a total bust. No hindsight. That was foresight. 10 seconds after he was picked. He was a weakling who wanted to stay in the BCHL rather than face the tougher challenge of the OHL. He looked like a stud playing against a bunch of inferior players. Kenny and Draper fell for it. Still remember those two giggling like they pulled some heist. Wow, we let them take Chychrun, but we still get our man in Cholowski, and now we have the cap space for Frans Nielsen too. Wow!!
P.S. Save the spiel about Hronek. We didn't need that pick for Hronek. We had our own pick that was used a few picks prior on Givani Smith. So here is how it boils down.
Option 1 - draft Cholowski, Smith, Hronek, sign Nielsen
Option 2 - draft Chychrun, Hronek, don't sign anyone since we aren't competing anyway |

Idk, I think Detroit should've protected Cholowski, he's still pretty young. |

I can attest, you’ve never wavered on cholo. The nonsense that without that 2nd round pick we wouldn’t have gotten Hronek is swill. A pairing of Chycrun and Hronek, good grief life would feel a little better right now

Seriously? I like Bert as much as the next guy, but that is a serious overvalue to think he and the 6th overall pick gets you that kind of return.

Nah. He needed to go. No real value added to the roster, overwhelmed by the level of play, unrealized potential only gets you a seat on the bench in the bus leagues. That being said, I hope this is a wake-up for him. Being a pro means unmitigated dedication to improvement (e.g., Zadina becoming a defensive juggernaut last season...expanding his skill-set, never stopping, etc...).
I do wish him the best, but just like anything else, if he doesn't work, his garden shall grow what he's sown.

Hey, Kool. So, despite the hope that exists with Cholo for some, I'll be on-board with you. Since last season, I've been saying he needs to go. I was willing to give him a chance early on, but watching him play in the bus-leagues, he looked like a boy amongst men. I don't want to hear that D-men take longer to find their game. They ONLY do that if they put in the work; Cholo didn't.
Now, I want the kid to do well. I don't like seeing anyone fail, BUT.....if you don't work, I have nothing for you. He just didn't work. He expected everything to be easy, and life just doesn't work that way. Best of luck, make this your wake-up call Cholo, strive to excel, blah blah blah.
Dude, if we'd kept Chychrun.....holy crap. |
