Beat me to it, exactly coudn't care less where he from, I want good players with Character
like you said he fit the bill and he quebecois good, but dont pick him solely on the latest for (frank) sake - Xizord
if they had them high on their list it would have been easy to draft them. they had many choices. 26, 33... many later ones to trade up.
but they didn't. kids will play elsewhere, as usual. |

Not surprised they went for some D now.
I expect the rest of the draft to be people swapping picks and moving up and down a few to grab a player here or there... bigger trades and excitement starting on the weekend before UFA on Wed.

Dumais and Langlois both picked just after the Habs pick. |

They are really putting themselves in a position to be bashed if any of these guys succeed.

Hains: Thrilling Night in Montreal
The Canadiens made the most of the first round of the NHL draft last night by addressing two glaring organizational needs. - Karine Hains
Great blog Karine! I’ll miss Romanov but I’m looking to see how HUGO’s trades and selections work out! I’m really excited with Slaf’s potential. It’s going be a brilliant pick or a bust. I’m betting on him being a brilliant addition. |

Is it just me or does anyone else get Jaromir Jagr "vibes" when looking at Slaf.
Obviously way too early for such a comparison but his size, position and nationality gives me that impression.
Or maybe I'm just delusional. |

That's the best case scenario. The worst is Armia.
I've read comparison to Franzen too. |

ca fait 20 ans qu'on voit de très bons joueurs québécois partout dans la ligue sauf à Montréal. c'est sûr that they are wrong in their assesment. that is not even debatable. |

Meh.
You can say that about a lot fo their picks (as can every organization about the assessment of their picks).
Where were the players ranked and what picks did they have at the time.
Look at the top players currently in the NHL... how many have the Habs realistically had a chance to pick?
But are there lots of really good Quebec born players in the NHL?
Heck, last year, Drouin made the top 25, I believe.
I don't have an issue with them drafting Quebec players, but I also don't want them to reach to pick one just to say the picked a player born in Quebec.

Ducks drafted 3. 3! let see if our picks do better.
not talking about the others drafted by other teams.
Habs, 0. zero.
if you want them, you draft them. |
