Kudos for recognizing one of the more lopsided trades made by Marc Bergevin. We will be talking about the Bergevin players for the next decade. He earned a new contract, however big the price tag. It is a shame he is now working for another team. |

Bergevin had a pretty decent track record in terms of trades, but in this case it was basically an unintentional genius move, unless the rumors reporting that he initially wanted Cody Glass instead of Suzuki are false... |

there lies the problem. he was there for 10 years, had a superb track record regarding trades... and yet his team finished dead last, missing the playoffs more often than not the past few years.
what does that tell us about the rest of his hockey ops, drafting to be precise?
it sucked bad, like really really bad.
that, and the inhability to find a #1C, to build a team. no vision.
good riddance. |

I still can't believe they actually got to the Stanley cup final, to then finish dead last the year after. soooo (frank)ed up lol |

smoke and mirrors.
a weak canadian division, a Habs team built for the playoffs (old style hockey) from the net out, but unable to make the playoffs under 'normal' circonstances, like we saw last season.
have to give them credit for it though. they saw an opening with the canadian division, took it, and succeeded.
but the return to reality last year was brutal. and expected. |

I get what you're saying by "smoke and mirrors", but I really enjoyed the run. despite the exceptional circumstances I never felt they didn't deserve to win those series.

Oh they deserved to win those series but they got there thanks to a perfect storm of freaky circumstances including the bubble playoffs and the fact that they could sign Toffoli because they were one of the rare teams with the money to do so in a crap money situation brought on by the pandemic |
