The guys are playing like they're lost, for the most part. When I look at SOG, I don't look at the number alone; how many attempts. SOG is low and so are attempts (tonight was an anomoly). What that tells me is that, minus a few flurries gere n there, we're passing vs shooting. Could also be the opposing D is just so strong that they consistently deny shooting lanes...... The point is, opposing D is wearing us out, we're not creative enough to win as individuals, there's no Makar or McDavid....There's got to be a comprehensive game plan that exploits the talent on this team (we DO have some talented kids....), but there needs to be creativity from the coaching staff. We KNOW that our D is suspect so we HAVE to try to out-score our short-falls....that ain't happenin'. Gus ain't the answer. Chiarot's taken some silly penalties. It's a mess.
I dunno, Jeremy. We're better than this. That's what hurts more than anything. It's gonna turn....we've some studs in the "A" and on this team......I. Just. Wanna. See. Improvement. |

Well on the bright side, the Wings are 28th in the league in points and looking like they will get a top 5 draft pick. I thought they would need a long term injury to Larkin or Seider to be this bad but they are doing it without an injury.
This draft seems to have a lot of centers with some lists having 7 out of 10 of the top prospects being centers (1 winger, 1 LD and 1 RHD for the other 3 in the top 10). |

As a coach, Barry Trotz had lean budget years. So did Dave Tippett in AZ. Trotz identified his strengths in Weber/Suter and Rinne and created a structure to keep the team in. Tippett did the same and both are heralded by former players who loved to play for them. There is talent coming, this roster took a step back but there is talent but big gaps. They need someone to mitigate that. There are disagreements on if coaching systems even matter. I think they matter most when you have to account for lapses and gaps. The team can’t keep having those fizzle out moments. It’s just brutal. I agree and think someone needs to come in and take charge |

Gus and Holl were not the problem this game, but I know the feeling when you see Gus on the ice, I have gotten over Holl's appearances as he has played well his last 10 games.
Wings did hold a high scoring team down to just 2 goals. Cat put 9 SOG, and the ice was not tilted in this game. Georgie had an uncharacteristic night in goal with a .967 save %, that was the difference. Husso countered with a .920, which was good for him. |

It was, for this year, a good night on shots and Husso has been playing some of his best over the past 2 seasons. They just can’t score for him. You’re right, those 2 dmen weren’t the issue i just shake my head seeing Gustafsson. There have been some rough losses where the usual suspects aren’t the issue. The team has just dried up and loses the ability to hold sustained pressure. A lot of one and done or shots right into the glove or midsection |

The ice was tilted in the 3rd period until the Wings pulled the goalie. I think at that point they were being outshot 11-1 or something like that. The Wings were playing like they were ahead by a goal trying to hold on to a lead and the Avs looked like a team down by a goal trying to tie it up but none of this was the case on the scoreboard. |

Ok, thank you for that reminder. It was a point I’d lost in my complaint about seeing more of Holl and Gustafsson. The D pair can’t get the puck out and generate offense over 200 ft. The number of times both of those players are in the same place concerns me. I do think they should have shortened the bench as Detroit went from staying ahead in shots to being behind. That last 2 minutes was exciting. Obviously they can’t pull a goalie for 10 minutes but the team needed a big period. That was well stated and a point I’d forgotten |

The Chiarot and Petry pair seems to be stuck in their zone for long stretches too. Wings basically have 1 defense pair that can move the puck out of their zone most of the time and that's Seider/Edvinsson. I did notice that even that pair sometimes gets stuck in their zone because Seider and Edvinsson have to pass it back and forth with the other teams forecheck pressure on them and the fact the wingers and centers are not in position for outlet passes or they went to change. The defense is a real problem behind Seider and Edvinsson but their defensive zone system is a big issue also that i have harped on enough over the last few years. |

We all agree that Gustafson should not be on the ice or on this team yet he continues to play is all you need to know about the coaching ability of Lalonde. |

Holl has looked better this year and when playing with someone other than Gus looks okay. You could stick Seider or Edvinsson with Gus and they would look bad. You cannot cover up the mistakes and miscues that Gus makes each night. To be blunt he is not a NHL player and know other team in the league would take him. |
