Ryan is the player we want JVR to be... ANA isn't going to trade a known quantity for potential without getting more in return. I'd be happy to ship JVR plus to ANA. Of course this doesn't mean that I'd over pay for him. - leon neon
What's the plus that you'd be willing to give up?

Bill Meltzer: Draft Day 2012: Round 1 - bmeltzer
I want to trade for Shea Weber now or move up to draft Griffin Reinhart. If there is any truth to trading Bob, I feel our pick and Bob should easily move us up some. By how much? I have no idea. |

He is somewhat akin to Behn Wilson (minus the regular fights) in his draft year, both in terms of physical ability and self-assurance that borders on being cocky and head-strong.
You CAN go wrong with Dunba if he doesn't grow up a little and become more receptive to coaching and systemic play. Hopefully, his NHL career won't be the roller coaster ride of wild inconsistency that Wilson's was. - bmeltzer
Thats my biggest fear with him..
He ends up thinking he is bigger (not size) than the team. He loves to jump up and lay people out, but that can also back fire.. and when that happens in the NHL and the coach starts flipping out.. im not so sure he will be the kind of guy who is receptive to criticism. I dont know him.. but he just looks like he is a bit of a cowboy (do it my way) type kid. |

I read yesterday somewhere that Weber has stated he wants to stay in Nashville.. and take things slow.. Ill try digging around... |

LOL he just looked like he was born to be a flyer...I guess he is a high risk high reward player. |

I just saw the Dunba segment on NHL channel... Some of those open ice hits look like Kronwall. Legal, but bone-crushing hits.. |

??? That's why Homer gets paid the big bucks... I'll just comment on the deal when it's done, whether we over paid or not.

The price for Nash is way to high and he isn't what the Flyers need anyway. I just don't get any of the hype with the Flyers being perceived to want to get him.
If he was the final piece to a cup winning Flyer's team then yes but I don't see that happening this year.
I would only trade JVR for one of the young Dmen in the NHL. I have no idea who would be available. Weber would be great but IMO the price would be too steep. |

I look at a team like Edmonton and think to myself, should they give up the first pick overall for an impact player? I'm not saying trade it to the Flyers but Eberle and Hall are both entering their third seasons in the NHL and have played very well but not enough to carry a team. Obviously RNH looks very promising but the Oliers Stanley Cup is making the playoffs this season (Don't take this comment too seriously). If they use the first pick to get that Sarnia Sting kid, hopefully they somehow get another high draft pick to get that kid's line mate. It would be pretty cool seeing them grow together. |

Only four players have scored 30+ goals in each of the past five seasons.
Rick Nash is one of them. Playing for Columbus. Without a #1 center. |

No chance I trade JvR for Ryan or Nash. JvR's contract going into the next 6 seasons is a steal if he becomes as good or better then those 2. It's Weber or nothing. |

is it me or is draft full of undersized players? idk, unless your picking 1-3, i feel 4 and 20 will produce same type of player, thus making the trade down useless, flyers rarely have ever done this unless the pick was part of another package. |

The Flyers are never afraid to go off the board a bit -- Gagne, Giroux, Richards, etc -- whether it's taking advantage of their scouting focus in the QMJHL or drafting by gut-feeling/intangibles, it's been the main reason they've been so successful in the 1st-round in the recent past. As an organization, it doesn't seem they put a lot of stock in sticking slavishly to the pre-draft rankings. - Tomahawk
Agree.
Although the Flyers stayed on course regarding Gagne at #22 (slated by THN at # 21), they did stray a bit with Richards at #24 (projected at #31 by the THN, #30 by Central Scouting) and "reached" for Giroux at #22 (THN #60, International Scouting Service at #37).
Interestingly, THN's write up on Claude included... Giroux won't be a first-line center, but he's shown a knack for scoring big goals at the right time.
Nice call.
We can add Forsberg and Zubrus to the above list as well as going off the board.

I think everyone likes Nash as a player but its his cap hit that people dont want. Whatever Homer does I'll support it. |

JvR was an off the board pick. It was a gamble between Kyle Turris and JvR. JvR was never the clear cut favorite in his draft. Simply put, everyone wanted Patrick Kane. |

So the rumor is that the Oilers dont want Nail.. and CBJ doesnt either...
IF either team was willing to trade their pick for JvR... would you do it? |

If the Flyers believe Dumba or Reinhart can be a #1 d-man, they should try and move up. It's not going to be easy to acquire an already established #1 d-man through trade, unless they are getting older (Pronger) or special circumstances (Kimmo - Nashville didn't have the money to pay him).
I'm all for moving up and getting Reinhart or Dumba. |

possibly, but I'm not keen on the idea of trading multiple players off the roster for only the pick.
ryan and the no. 6 pick for a smaller package would be my first choice but even then, i don't know. |

THN also said Giroux needs to simplify his game to have a chance in NHL and his size would always be an issue.
A few years ago, I did a "guess the scouting report" quiz here on HockeyBuzz, using scouting reports of prominent stars or infamous draft busts.
Even some of the most fundamental player attributes sometimes wind up being way off the mark. Scott Niedermayer was described as a defensive liability, Chris Gratton as a creative speedster, Pat Falloon as feisty and competitive, Jagr as doing "nothing flashy", Selanne as being "typically European in that he's reluctant to shoot the puck and would rather pass", Simon Gagne as a merely average to slightly above average skater.
