Last night was pretty great. Five games to kick off the first round. Two of them went to Overtime.......there are no shootouts.......the Playoffs are great!!
But the Coyotes were not invited. Too many losses.
To me, the season wasn't a total loss because of the development of players like Dvorak and Chychrun, while at the same time, I feel more could have been done.
Duclair backslid, Domi didn't really take the next step.........but the main problem was that the Coyotes' coach, Dave Tippett coached his team like it was 1996 and every game was a chance to win it all.
By which I mean too much reliance on grinders......too many minutes to guys like Luke Schenn while kids who will be here in the future - sometimes DeAngleo, sometimes Chychrun - sat in the Press Box.
Other moves were just confusing: why demote Strome?
Why did Duclair lose his job to a 36 year old power-play specialist before he even had a chance to lose it on his own?
The problem with the Coyotes was that they played like they were trying to grind out wins, when they should have been setting themselves up for the future. More minutes to the kids, fill that lineup with puck movers and fast skaters, etc.
Why give PP time to Doan and Vrbata at the expense of Perlini or Dvorak?
This team needs a new coach worse than any team in the NHL. Nothing against Tippett, he's done fine with what he's had, but a new voice, a new vision........specifically one that doesn't clash with the GM's.
The Minnesota Timberwolves (?) who I have personally never heard of but which are supposedly a real NBA team, hired a plagerist who doesn't know the difference between a Wolf and a Coyote to redesign their logo.
It's a little like if the Predators redesigned their logo to look like a Raptor.
What were these guys thinking? How will Sean Spicer spin this one?
