The San Jose Sharks have a bit of cap space remaining and over the next little while, I’ll look at which low-cost free agents the Sharks could look to sign in free agency. I’m also doing this list on a guess that Joe Thornton will be back, which would eliminate the need to add a third-line center. This article will focus on Patrick Maroon.

Maroon is coming off back-to-back Stanley Cups but considering the Tampa Bay Lightning’s cap situation, we can expect that he’ll be heading to the free agent market for third year in a row. He had nine goals and 23 points in 64 games this year, a pace of 12 goals and 29 points per 82 games, but he did it while averaging less than 12:30 per game. He’d certainly get a larger role in San Jose and as a result, we could expect an increase in production.

He’s just two seasons removed from averaging 19 goals and 48 points per 82, but considering he produced at nearly the exact same rate this season as he did in 2018-19, we can assume he won’t make much more than the $900,000 that he did this year. He’s another player that will more than likely take a one-year deal with an AAV around $1 million.

Despite the fact that he’s 32 years old, the Sharks need help on the wing and Maroon could certainly be an effective middle-six forward. He’d get much more ice time in San Jose than he did in Tampa Bay and as a result, I don’t think it would be shocking to see him score around 35 or 40 points if he was to join the Sharks.

Maroon is another veteran forward who could be a big help for the Sharks, while doing it at a low cost. We’re talking about a no-risk signing for a quality depth piece and as far as I’m concerned, Maroon should be one of the free agents that the Sharks look to add in the offseason.
