The San Jose Sharks have reportedly signed forward William Eklund to a three-year entry-level contract, which carries a $925,000 cap hit. The signing has yet to be announced by the team but was reported by CapFriendly.com.

Eklund was selected by the Sharks with the seventh-overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft. He spent the year in Sweden’s highest professional league, where he scored 11 goals and 23 points in 40 games. While Eklund is undersized, he has a very high offensive upside and projects to be a top-six forward.

It’s unlikely that Eklund earns a spot with the Sharks this year and should he play nine games or less with the team, his contract will slide and San Jose won’t burn the first year of his contract.
