Who cares Kadri is a self indulged waste of space

"So for a few months now the Islanders have been out front of the Kadri sweeps..."
A few months? Kadri was busy winning the Cup on June 26. He didn't become a free agent until July 13. That was 33 days ago. Was Lou tampering throughout the playoffs?
..."with people close to the situation even saying the word is Lou Lamoriello has "figured it all out." And yet, no one close to the Isles has said "figuring it all out" is 100% linked to Kadri."
Wait. So people have said Lou has everything figured out. People jumped to conclusions thinking this meant he was signing Kadri, but its possible figuring it all out just meant he had like, some type of plan in place for next season? Nobody has ever mentioned Kadri? I thought 2 weeks ago it was reported this was basically a done deal. See here - https://hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=118316
Definitely confusing situation... |

Lou & Rutherford have dug their heels in with $ & term on both players.
I could see Miller going to the Isle's. |

If the AAV is too low for Kadri, how's the AAV on an extension for Miller going to look better to the Isles? Miller is ~29 1/2 at the start of this season, and Kadri will be almost 32. Maybe those extra years of youth are worth 1-2 mm AAV more to Lou for Miller? That's costly for a team with a lot of 30+ contracts. The assets required to get Miller from VAN prior to the start of the season will also be material. For a team like the Isles, who have a weak prospect pool outside Raty and maybe Dufour, it needs to start acquiring talent not trading away picks. Is there really a perception that the Isles have an open window for a Cup?
Regardless, I don't think Miller is going anywhere soon. VAN thinks it is a playoff team. |

So Miller goes from one codger GM to another codger GM and gets his deal? |

If the right terms can be met, I’ll take Miller.
Hell I’ll take Chandler Stephenson over KADRI.

Not possible. Kadri is an Islander already. It has been reported at length on this website. |

So get Kadri for nothing or get JTM by giving up a haul of picks and players…one of these moves makes the isles better the other does not. But yeah good roomer. Vancouver people have been reporting for weeks there has been no progress or talks on JTM extension or trade. - TurdFergeson
I would take JT Miller over Kadri. Any day of the week. |

The Avs have 3.9 million in Cap space. Usually short term deals are for inflated AAV over long term deals but lets say Kadri likes Denver so much and is willing to give up the security of his last shot at a long term deal enough to go say a year for 7 million and try again next year. A lot of ifs I know. To get that other 3 million someone has to go - popular opinion says Compher at 3.5 or Girard at 5. if it's Compher they'd have a buffer of about 400K which would make it impossible to call anyone up putting them in a situation similar to a couple years ago when they had to trade Ian Cole just to have cap space to call up a backup goalie. The other option is to trade Sam Girard, a Top 4 D signed to a reasonable deal, for prospects/picks (don't want any salary coming back), while in a full-on Cup window, for one year of Naz Kadri.
Can anyone else see another way for this to happen? It seems unlikely to say the least and has since before last season started. But lets keep saying the Avs will sign Kadri and are just waiting to do it at the last possible date so they get as little as possible for Girard. What did Vegas get for Nate Schmidt when they signed Pietrangelo later in the the Summer? A 3rd I think? That sounds about right. |

Kadri is unsigned because he and his agent have over valued his services. Yes he had a great season, but that isn't likely to occur again, even playing for the Avs. Kadri wants big dollars, term, and a winning club....or so it seems, and it is doubtful he gets all three.

Same deal with JTM. Poker game going on with both players.

Hmm, looks like a cursory glance at the salary cap and some basic logic rules out Kadri (aka Naz) coming back to Colorado. To me the only other possibility is if Erik Johnson develops an equipment allergy and sits out his final season on LTIR. But that's incredibly risky for Kadri to sign a 1-year deal with anyone. One injury and he walks away from tens of millions of dollars. Smart move for him at this stage is to suck it up and accept a 5-7 year deal, at a lower AAV than he anticipated. And likely with a team not ready to compete. I've always thought a team like Buffalo makes sense...lots of youth coming up, but very few veteran mentors, Okposo is in his final years and then his $6M is off the books, at that stage Jeff Skinner is the only 30+ roster player, so Kadri could slide in and wear an A on a team with an opening window. I have no sources though...

Pretty sure the Avs were offering the optimal deal at the time of an extension, now the market on competitive teams is barren. His agent should be fired if he sold him the idea he could get better elsewhere .

I can't imagine he and/or his agent were that reckless
Logically speaking, the fact that there has been zero reported about Kadri by any of the insiders on this probably indicates that he's signing on Long Island. The need for more talent exists for the organization and the radio silence from all parties is certainly Lou's MO.
If he's not signing on LI then I have absolutely no idea what he and his agent were thinking, because pretty much every other team out there has done their work for the summer and bought/sold/etc... whatever players they were going to and he'd have very little leverage to negotiate a favorable deal |
